Halfway through semester 2....

So today was the halfway mark in clinicals, three down, three to go and we've only got like 7 more weeks until semester 2 is over, but I have to make a confession.  I still don't feel like I know a darn thing!  I just don't feel like I'm studying enough & learning enough.  I mean seriously, I just don't see myself being able to see a patient any time soon, hell when it came to assessing my patient I had to go to last semester's book & look up some things to assess (& I wasn't the only one)......Am I ever going to feel like I actually know something?


Please tell me there are other nurses out there who felt like this at first, but now they are seasoned nurses who know EVERYTHING!!  Ok, I know you don't know everything, but at least you know stuff, right?  Nerves are kicking in!!  Maybe I should study a bit more you say?  I agree!!  Thanks for the advice...

    I feel the EXACT same! It's like I'm studying all the time and yet half the time I'm just clueless! Who am I kidding, more like 99.999% of the time lol. I've asked my friends that are nurses and they said they didn't feel comfortable until they'd been working for a year post-graduation! We'll get there some day :) Just keep chugging along! I'm sure your'e learning more than you think.

      Haha, well I knew I wasn't the only one in this boat. I mean even in my class I think we all feel like this, but it's scary, especially knowing that next semester is our med surge/OB rotation & I guess they're going to expect us to know some things....seriously??

      It is scary! lol. I think "scary" sums it up PERFECTLY. :o We're not quite there yet, I think you're ahead of me- but good luck!! :) You'll be great!

    I am about to graduate and have been an LPN for a few years and I still feel like I don't know anything some days.

      Yeah but you feel like you don't know "some" things, I feel like I don't know "NO"thing!! ;)

    I still feel like this, most days. Especially since I joined this new practice. Very humbling, indeed. You'll be fine. It's the overconfident nurses that I worry about...

    here i am, in my senior year and i'm slowly starting to understand things a little more than freshman year. and seriously, even when you think you don't know enough - you know more than you think you know!! (if that makes any sense). i'm sure that confidence will come with time and experience. i'm still scared too!!

I feel so inadequate...

So today I was reading Sophia's blog over at All Things NP , she's a NP student at Penn State.  As I was reading about her interview process with Penn State & her rotations & her Sim Man day I started thinking, I am nowhere NEAR as smart as she is.  I still struggle with what lab values are correct, much less IF they're off then why??!!  I know that I don't put in as much time studying as some of my other classmates do and all of this makes me really doubt myself.  When will this stuff start to really click? When will I start to KNOW this stuff?  I wish I could spend more time studying than I do & in all honesty I probably could, but I also have a very busy life.  I know that's not an excuse as everyone has their own "stuff", but I was seriously thinking as I was reading over her blog that I really need to buckle down & start reading a bit more.  I definitely need to start studying more.  I mean, I'm doing fine in my classes but PERSON

I'm still alive!! Tomorrow is the NCLEX!

So as you can see I have GRADUATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo!!  I am SO happy that nursing school is over, but can we say holy terrified?  Tomorrow is the NCLEX & I feel thoroughly unprepared.  Fortunately our school provided us with the HURST Review  and even though I have been studying this for about 2 weeks now I still feel completely terrified to actually take the test.  Of my former classmates I know of one so far who has failed....so scary... The rest of them are chugging along & passing on a daily basis, hopefully I will be one of them! But to rewind, here are a few pics from graduation & my graduation party that my precious husband & sister threw for me: That's my baby girl to my right, she looks taller than me!   I seriously couldn't have been cheesing any harder!! My nursing bestie & his bf hiding in the back! My study buddy!   My inlaws, aren't they precious!! Definitely one of the best days of my life!

One week down, two more to go...

Whew, one week of CNA class down, only 2 more to go.  Thankfully yesterday was the last day of book work and our first "skill" practice...handwashing.  Honestly, you wouldn't think handwashing would be a big deal, you'd be wrong.  About half the class would have failed had they taken the skill yesterday and guess why?  Because of the shake.  You know the shake.  You've just gotten done washing your hands and the water is still dripping off of them and so what do you do?  Well, you shake the excess water off of course!  Uh-uh, not on THIS test you don't.  Our teacher told us that shaking was an automatic failure, can you believe it?  Well it's true.  So now we have to practice washing our hands with our fingers pointing down the whole time and NOT shaking off the excess water, lol.  Who would have thought handwashing would actually be a learned skill.  Next week we start learning all 26 other skills that we have to master in order to take the state test to
