HESI....

So apparently every semester we will be having a HESI exam in one of our fundamental courses.  These exams are supposed to be an indicator of whether or not we can pass the NCLEX.  Interesting.  The test was given in our Assessment class, which is probably a blessing b/c that is the class I am doing the worst in.  I have a high C average in that class, which as you all know (well most of you know) is only two points above what you need to NOT FAIL.  So I guess having the HESI in that class was a good thing seeing as I got an 86.7.  Although it didn't really bring up my grade, as it was only worth 6% of the total grade, it didn't hurt it either, but there were plenty of other people that didn't fare too well.  Several people talked about failing it and I heard of still others that BOMBED it.  So, I guess I'm just glad that I passed with a decent grade.  It's interesting b/c that's about what I got on my HESI entrance exam.  As long as I can stay in that range for the rest of the tests, hopefully that means I will pass the NCLEX with that same range :)

So Monday is my assessment skills test, goodness gracious.  I can't believe it's here already.  I'm not too nervous though, we've gone over all of it in class, but I'm just afraid that I'm going to get in there and forget what I'm supposed to say.  Luckily my teacher is SUPER nice and down to earth, so that really helps to relieve my "performance anxiety".  Eugene is going to Alabama this weekend so it'll just be me & the kids, so I'll have plenty of time to practice on my shadow.  I love that she loves to volunteer to be my patient :) My elective class is done, turned in my final paper on Tuesday. I have one more paper in Gerontology, which I'm NOT looking forward to and then my finals.  Ok so there has been quite a bit of drama going on in our nursing class this semester, our Assessment teacher regularly sends out emails telling us how much we suck, and so many of us bombing the HESI that I'm starting to think out teachers think we're a bunch of dummies.  Why would I think that?  Well maybe b/c our Patho final is open book & our Gero final is open note.  But you know what?  I'll take it. I've got a low B in Patho right now so I'm not too terribly worried about it, but the reason I do so well is b/c the teacher throws out any questions that the majority of the class misses, so really, how can we NOT do well?  But still, we've got 46 Chapters to be tested on & let's just say that I'm not really remembering too much from the first of the semester, so yes my book is PROBABLY going to come in quite handy.  But that still leaves Assessment.  That teacher is harsh, she could care less if any of us passes, much less do anything to HELP us pass.  Thankfully she did send out a "sort of" study guide, so I'm trying to go through & figure out exactly what's going to be on the test so I can study my butt off and PRAY that I pass that class.  Just two more weeks and it will all be over!!  Well at least for the summer :)  Woohoo!!!

  1. Good job on your score! Keep up on those practice questions in the HESI books like Kaplan, especially during your summer break. You'll do on your final assessment, I just know it!

  2. Thanks Zazz. I still can't believe that the end of the semester is just around the corner and my final assessment is here. I remember at the beginning of the semester not even knowing what auscultate meant, now I'm auscultating all over my partner, lol. And the bell and diaphragm do what? Well I sure know now. Since we only have to make 50% on everything except the heart & lungs (which we have to make 75%), I'm not too terribly nervous. Although I would hate to only get 50%!!! Hopefully I won't miss anything, but we'll see. I'm super excited about it all and so blessed that God has brought me this far. I can't wait for what's to come!! Hope you have a great weekend.

I'm still alive!! Tomorrow is the NCLEX!

So as you can see I have GRADUATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo!!  I am SO happy that nursing school is over, but can we say holy terrified?  Tomorrow is the NCLEX & I feel thoroughly unprepared.  Fortunately our school provided us with the HURST Review  and even though I have been studying this for about 2 weeks now I still feel completely terrified to actually take the test.  Of my former classmates I know of one so far who has failed....so scary... The rest of them are chugging along & passing on a daily basis, hopefully I will be one of them! But to rewind, here are a few pics from graduation & my graduation party that my precious husband & sister threw for me: That's my baby girl to my right, she looks taller than me!   I seriously couldn't have been cheesing any harder!! My nursing bestie & his bf hiding in the back! My study buddy!   My inlaws, aren't they precious!! Definitely one of the best days of my life!

I feel so inadequate...

So today I was reading Sophia's blog over at All Things NP , she's a NP student at Penn State.  As I was reading about her interview process with Penn State & her rotations & her Sim Man day I started thinking, I am nowhere NEAR as smart as she is.  I still struggle with what lab values are correct, much less IF they're off then why??!!  I know that I don't put in as much time studying as some of my other classmates do and all of this makes me really doubt myself.  When will this stuff start to really click? When will I start to KNOW this stuff?  I wish I could spend more time studying than I do & in all honesty I probably could, but I also have a very busy life.  I know that's not an excuse as everyone has their own "stuff", but I was seriously thinking as I was reading over her blog that I really need to buckle down & start reading a bit more.  I definitely need to start studying more.  I mean, I'm doing fine in my classes but PERSON

MedSurg - Ortho Floor....

Ok can we say TOTAL snooze fest???  Today was our first official day on the MedSurg floor, but unfortunately since the professor figured we might be overwhelmed with over 15 pages of clinical paperwork due in one night, we weren't really able to do much (meaning no passing of meds).  We were basically put into the PCT roles.  So, pretty much it felt like last semester's clinical all over again, a bunch of elderly people, except for these ones have total hip replacements instead of just being old.   And let me tell you I can say with almost 100% assurance that working on the Ortho wing of the MedSurg floor is NOT where I see my future nursing self.  I mean maybe it was just my perception, but I saw the nurses basically in the same role as they were in the nursing home.  Going from patint room to patient room passing meds.  BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I hate that we don't get an ER rotation, I REALLY think that I would like that much more, except that as a new nurse I just don'
