So hard to believe!!

It's so hard to believe that in less than 2 months I will be a full fledged nursing student!!! Even harder to believe is that in 2 short years I will be a nurse. A full on RN. A Bachelor degree holding RN!!!!!!!!! First of all, just having a Bachelor's degree is big in and of itself. As I said before, I will be the first one in my family to hold a Bachelor's degree. My mother talked about going back to school a lot in her 30's, but she just never could make it. She always wanted to be an attorney and Lord that woman always thought she was right, she would have made a great one!! But with 2 kids at home and a full time job, she just couldn't make it happen. It's something I always regretted for her, and definitely a major motivator in my life to spur me to go back to school. When she died with unfulfilled dreams I knew that I didn't want to end up like that, I don't want to be on my death bed full of regrets of what I should have done. I want to take life by the horns and ride this bull kicking and snorting to the very end!!!!!! So thus begins this exciting, terrifying journey. And the beginning is this packet I need to go through. Just looking at all the deadlines and knowing that if I miss even one of them I'm "OUTTA THERE!", totally makes me nervous. I mean I JUST got the packet yesterday & already one of the deadlines to turn in my acceptance letter is just around the corner. I have to fill out my acceptance letter, which is basically just a page I sign saying I accept the position in the program that they're offering me. Also, I have to go to the school & get my student ID so that they can program it so that I can have electronic access to all the labs, etc. Then there's a physical, I have to show proof of my medical insurance, I have to purchase malpractice insurance from the school (thank God it's only $10.15 a year!), and I have to turn all of these things, plus a few more into various different places. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just turn all this stuff into one place? But I know from years of working in medical offices that there's always many major hoops to jump through in order to get what you want. So thankfully I'm used to this. It's just the deadlines that give me a little perspiration under my arm pits.

So right now I have to get online & log into my school account b/c let's be real, FIRST THINGS FIRST, I have to get my financial stuff in order. I will be having to pay for school with student loans for now. Initially I had thought I might get my CNA license & find a hospital to hire me who will pay for my schooling, BUT I just don't know if I want to even go that route. I don't know yet, I'm going to have to pray over this one & see where the Lord is leading me. But, wherever that goes, for now I have to get my student loan in place. I applied for this year (hoping I was going to get accepted for the fall program), but since the spring program starts in January, I am assuming that's a different year. Actually it may still be considered the same "school" year, but still I need to hustle on over to the FAFSA website, just to make sure. If I can't pay for school, I ain't going to school!

So, as you can see, I am TOTALLY excited about this new phase in my life and I plan to blog about it all the way through. I want this to be a comprehensive blog where a future nursing student can come and see all the good, the bad and the ugly about nursing school. I know there are many blogs out there that are by nursing students, but I want this one to be totally about my escapades through nursing school AND BEYOND!! So hang on for the ride and I hope that I'm not dreaming thinking I can keep this up all while

Thanks for stopping by! (I know I don't have any followers yet, but I have faith :))

  1. Oops, I just posted on your other blog so will this be the new blog site?

Congratulations on getting in and it sounds like you know there will be a lot of hoops to jump through, but you can do it.

  3. Wow what a testimony that you gave regarding why you chose to go back to school and wanting to challenge yourself up til the very end. I hope the hoops aren't too much to tackle just make sure to talk to your counselor about anything you should need to do that you aren't. Always bring a notebook and take notes. Also, once you start the program take advantage of the older students and perk your ears up when they talk about assignments and what to expect for exams because they are a fountain of knowledge of what you can expect.
Ultimately I'm sure this blog will be a wonderful outlet and I look forward to hearing about your experiences. NP Odyssey (NPO) is a great resource for motivation too.
    Yay, you made it! WELCOME!

  4. Girl please what are you talking about?? I AM one of the older students!! And yes I have been following NPO since the beginning of my nursing adventures. I am looking forward to all of it, I can't wait & I can't wait to share it all. It'll be a great thing to have once it's all over. After I graduate from school I'm going to have the blog printed into a book so that I can look back on it and pass it down to my children in the future.

I'm still alive!! Tomorrow is the NCLEX!

So as you can see I have GRADUATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo!!  I am SO happy that nursing school is over, but can we say holy terrified?  Tomorrow is the NCLEX & I feel thoroughly unprepared.  Fortunately our school provided us with the HURST Review  and even though I have been studying this for about 2 weeks now I still feel completely terrified to actually take the test.  Of my former classmates I know of one so far who has failed....so scary... The rest of them are chugging along & passing on a daily basis, hopefully I will be one of them! But to rewind, here are a few pics from graduation & my graduation party that my precious husband & sister threw for me: That's my baby girl to my right, she looks taller than me!   I seriously couldn't have been cheesing any harder!! My nursing bestie & his bf hiding in the back! My study buddy!   My inlaws, aren't they precious!! Definitely one of the best days of my life!

I feel so inadequate...

So today I was reading Sophia's blog over at All Things NP , she's a NP student at Penn State.  As I was reading about her interview process with Penn State & her rotations & her Sim Man day I started thinking, I am nowhere NEAR as smart as she is.  I still struggle with what lab values are correct, much less IF they're off then why??!!  I know that I don't put in as much time studying as some of my other classmates do and all of this makes me really doubt myself.  When will this stuff start to really click? When will I start to KNOW this stuff?  I wish I could spend more time studying than I do & in all honesty I probably could, but I also have a very busy life.  I know that's not an excuse as everyone has their own "stuff", but I was seriously thinking as I was reading over her blog that I really need to buckle down & start reading a bit more.  I definitely need to start studying more.  I mean, I'm doing fine in my classes but PERSON

MedSurg - Ortho Floor....

Ok can we say TOTAL snooze fest???  Today was our first official day on the MedSurg floor, but unfortunately since the professor figured we might be overwhelmed with over 15 pages of clinical paperwork due in one night, we weren't really able to do much (meaning no passing of meds).  We were basically put into the PCT roles.  So, pretty much it felt like last semester's clinical all over again, a bunch of elderly people, except for these ones have total hip replacements instead of just being old.   And let me tell you I can say with almost 100% assurance that working on the Ortho wing of the MedSurg floor is NOT where I see my future nursing self.  I mean maybe it was just my perception, but I saw the nurses basically in the same role as they were in the nursing home.  Going from patint room to patient room passing meds.  BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I hate that we don't get an ER rotation, I REALLY think that I would like that much more, except that as a new nurse I just don'
