Officially a SECOND semester nursing student!!!

So it's official, I have survived my first semester of nursing school!  1 down 4 to go, but for now I'm just extremely happy that the first semester is over & done with.  Here are my grades.  Health Assessment C (boo), Patho B, Gerontology A, Professionalism A, Health Trends/Issues A, Assessment Skills lab P.
It was such a relief to walk out of my last final today with a 92 & know that I was done with 1/5 of my classes, and that I was 1/5 of the way to changing my and my family's future forever.

After class was over a large group of us (about half of our class) met at a Mexican restaurant for lunch & some drinks & it was just so nice to be involved with such a great group of people who were so serious about their future.  Pursuing nursing as a profession is so exciting.  It's just exciting to know that my job will no longer be a job but will be a profession.  And while I was thinking about that it just really sunk in that one day I'll have a career & no longer a job & it was just a really great feeling.

So I took a couple of pics & I thought I'd post the one of me & Gregory.  Gregory & I have become very close this semester, which is really exciting.  Our goals are almost identical & I kept telling him it's like we're twins from another mother.  I was very grateful to have met him & if things go the way I plan one day we'll be opening the Kinney Clinic.  (Kidding, that's not what it would be called), but you get my point.

Anyhoo, this is me & Gregory, now OFFICIALLY second semester nursing students!!!

I'm still alive!! Tomorrow is the NCLEX!

So as you can see I have GRADUATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo!!  I am SO happy that nursing school is over, but can we say holy terrified?  Tomorrow is the NCLEX & I feel thoroughly unprepared.  Fortunately our school provided us with the HURST Review  and even though I have been studying this for about 2 weeks now I still feel completely terrified to actually take the test.  Of my former classmates I know of one so far who has failed....so scary... The rest of them are chugging along & passing on a daily basis, hopefully I will be one of them! But to rewind, here are a few pics from graduation & my graduation party that my precious husband & sister threw for me: That's my baby girl to my right, she looks taller than me!   I seriously couldn't have been cheesing any harder!! My nursing bestie & his bf hiding in the back! My study buddy!   My inlaws, aren't they precious!! Definitely one of the ...

Got the job!!

So the director of the Med/Surg floor said I would hear something by today and well, I waited as long as I could before calling her seeing as I hadn't heard from her.  I said I would wait until 4:00 but by 3:30 I was chomping at the bit so I called her.  She said "I was just filling out your paperwork to offer you the job"!!! Yay me!!      Now I know it's just a PCT/CNA job, but hey it gets my foot in the door right?  I've talked to several of my friends who are in the semesters ahead of me & they've all said the same thing.  "Get a job NOW".   I have one friend who said she can't even get a PCT job b/c no one will hire her b/c she's too close to graduating.  I never thought of that. Why wouldn't they want to hire you knowing that soon you'd be able to be a nurse there??  I don't know, but I am glad to have the job.    The director said she thinks the pay is $10 an hour, which is pretty dece...

I passed!!!

Sorry it took me so long to post, but yes I passed the dreaded NCLEX!! I was so nervous but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  I got 141 questions & I swear around question 130 I thought "I'm the one, I'm going to get all of the questions", but luckily I wasn't, but my friend was!  Me & two of my friends took it at the same time & one finished with 75, then there was me & then the other one got all of the questions, thankfully though we all passed!!  After it was over we all came together & did "the trick" & yes it really works.  2 of my friends failed & they were able to go all the way to the credit card screen after taking the test, but everyone that passed was stopped before getting to that scree, so just in case you're wondering, yes the trick really works. So, I have been working on Med Surg now for about a month & I have to say that I have really learned some interesting things of which I will...
