A whole lot of nuttin'

That's literally what I've been doing since I got out of school.  Ok, that's not completely true, we did go to Lake Winnie  which was really fun.  But unfortunately I forgot my stupid phone so I didn't get any pictures to post on my other blog.  Besides that day though I have basically been a super slug.  Today I stayed in bed until I picked Alei up at 3:00.  Isn't that crazy?  I can't help it.  I KNOW I have stuff I COULD be doing, but it's all yucky stuff.  I mean do I really want to clean my bathroom?  Noooo.  Although I know it NEEDS cleaning terribly.  But I guess I'm just using this time to decompress after my semester.  I'll get it moving soon I'm sure.  Guess what I did do though?  I got out my Patho book & workbook, sat down at the kitchen table & then changed my mind b/c I felt guilty b/c I had other stuff I should be doing.  But even though I did get up from the kitchen table, I don't recall if I actually did the things I was supposed to be doing.
Anyway, I'm not going to beat myself up too badly though b/c my kids will be out of school in two weeks & then I'm sure I'll be non-stop.  I can't WAIT to hit the lake.  I love the lake.  But, don't get me wrong, I AM going to do that workbook this summer.  There are many concepts that I just don't get.  I suck terribly at figuring out what is wrong with a patient.  Yes I know that a certain disease causes certain symptoms, but if you give me those symptoms in a scenario & then tell me to figure out what's wrong with the person, FORGET IT, not gonna happen.  And that kind of worries me.  I read this really great blog from an ER nurse & I'm always thinking "How does she know all this".  I guess one day I'll know more, but that day seems like a long way off.  So until then I'm going to work on my Patho workbook & hope some more of this stuff starts to click.....Ah school, how I miss thee....

    1. Rossville, GA is known as "Rossvegas" and that's where Lake Winnie is located. Haven't been there in years.

I'm still alive!! Tomorrow is the NCLEX!

So as you can see I have GRADUATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo!!  I am SO happy that nursing school is over, but can we say holy terrified?  Tomorrow is the NCLEX & I feel thoroughly unprepared.  Fortunately our school provided us with the HURST Review  and even though I have been studying this for about 2 weeks now I still feel completely terrified to actually take the test.  Of my former classmates I know of one so far who has failed....so scary... The rest of them are chugging along & passing on a daily basis, hopefully I will be one of them! But to rewind, here are a few pics from graduation & my graduation party that my precious husband & sister threw for me: That's my baby girl to my right, she looks taller than me!   I seriously couldn't have been cheesing any harder!! My nursing bestie & his bf hiding in the back! My study buddy!   My inlaws, aren't they precious!! Definitely one of the ...

Got the job!!

So the director of the Med/Surg floor said I would hear something by today and well, I waited as long as I could before calling her seeing as I hadn't heard from her.  I said I would wait until 4:00 but by 3:30 I was chomping at the bit so I called her.  She said "I was just filling out your paperwork to offer you the job"!!! Yay me!!      Now I know it's just a PCT/CNA job, but hey it gets my foot in the door right?  I've talked to several of my friends who are in the semesters ahead of me & they've all said the same thing.  "Get a job NOW".   I have one friend who said she can't even get a PCT job b/c no one will hire her b/c she's too close to graduating.  I never thought of that. Why wouldn't they want to hire you knowing that soon you'd be able to be a nurse there??  I don't know, but I am glad to have the job.    The director said she thinks the pay is $10 an hour, which is pretty dece...

I passed!!!

Sorry it took me so long to post, but yes I passed the dreaded NCLEX!! I was so nervous but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  I got 141 questions & I swear around question 130 I thought "I'm the one, I'm going to get all of the questions", but luckily I wasn't, but my friend was!  Me & two of my friends took it at the same time & one finished with 75, then there was me & then the other one got all of the questions, thankfully though we all passed!!  After it was over we all came together & did "the trick" & yes it really works.  2 of my friends failed & they were able to go all the way to the credit card screen after taking the test, but everyone that passed was stopped before getting to that scree, so just in case you're wondering, yes the trick really works. So, I have been working on Med Surg now for about a month & I have to say that I have really learned some interesting things of which I will...
